Fresh revelations have emerged in the House of Representatives’ investigation into the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), with lawmakers claiming that the signature on the appointment letter of the agency’s purported Director-General differs from official correspondence issued by the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.
Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Yusuf Gadgi, made the disclosure during an investigative hearing at the National Assembly, where lawmakers continued probing the legitimacy of the alleged agency and the appointment of Adeyemi Adeniyi as its supposed Director-General.
According to Gadgi, the committee examined several official letters sent by the Office of the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to key government institutions, including the National Security Adviser, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force.
He said the signatures on those official documents were consistent and authentic, but noted that the signature appearing on Adeniyi’s appointment letter was different.
“The only signature that differs is the signature that appointed the fake DG,” Gadgi told the committee.
The hearing also featured testimony from the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who described the situation as unprecedented. She revealed that individuals claiming to represent the PFIPC had appeared before her office seeking official recognition as a newly established government agency.
According to Walson-Jack, the delegation requested an appointment letter for the agency’s Chief Executive Officer, citing an alleged Establishment Act. She stated that her office had never encountered such a situation before, raising further questions about the status and authenticity of the organization.
The latest disclosures have intensified scrutiny surrounding the PFIPC controversy, with lawmakers continuing efforts to determine how the alleged agency operated and whether forged documents were used to create the impression of official government backing.
As investigations continue, the outcome could have significant implications for those linked to the alleged scheme.
