Fresh political fireworks have erupted as the Presidency has launched a strong response to Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following his renewed claim that he won the last presidential election but was allegedly denied victory.

President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed Obi’s comments, insisting that the former Anambra State governor should accept the outcome of the 2023 election and stop claiming a victory he never secured.

The exchange followed Obi’s recent interview on Channels Television, where he maintained that he won the presidential election but was rigged out. Reacting in a statement, Onanuga described the interview as a public relations setback for the opposition politician.

According to the presidential aide, Obi remains in denial despite the legal challenges surrounding the election having been concluded. He argued that the Supreme Court had already ruled on the matter and urged the former governor to move on.

Onanuga also responded to Obi’s remarks comparing his political journey with that of President Tinubu. He rejected the comparison, stating that Tinubu had remained within the progressive political movement throughout his career, unlike Obi, whom he accused of moving across parties with differing political ideologies.

While acknowledging that Obi performed strongly during the 2023 election, Onanuga maintained that the Labour Party candidate ultimately finished behind the eventual winner. He argued that continued claims of electoral victory were inconsistent with the official results and judicial decisions.

“Mr. Obi, it is time you accepted the stark reality of the loss. Stop dreaming of a victory that you never had,” Onanuga stated.

The renewed exchange has reignited debate among supporters of both political figures, with many Nigerians expressing differing opinions over the 2023 election and the country’s political future.

Neither Peter Obi nor his media team had issued a fresh response to Onanuga’s latest remarks at the time of filing this report.
