Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not in good health and should step away from office to focus on his wellbeing.
Lawal made the remarks during an interview on Symfoni TV, where he questioned the President’s fitness and referenced his overseas trips, particularly to France.
According to the former SGF, Nigerians are not deceived by the President’s travels, suggesting that Tinubu should prioritize his health after completing his current term.
“President Tinubu is not a healthy man. Nigerians are not fooled when he goes to France. I’ve said it before. He has done four years. He should face his health,” Lawal said.
He also made personal claims about the President’s lifestyle, alleging that Tinubu has simple eating habits.
“Tinubu is not even someone who is materialistic. He wakes up in the morning and eats banana and groundnut, and that’s his food,” he stated.
Lawal further alleged that the President has a long-standing fondness for smoking.
“What I know he likes most is silk cigarettes. He smokes. He likes that a lot. He can’t do without it. I don’t know if he has stopped,” he added.
The comments are likely to spark fresh political debate, particularly as discussions surrounding the 2027 general elections continue to dominate the nation’s political landscape.
Lawal has remained a vocal critic of the current administration in recent months. His latest remarks come shortly after he announced his departure from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alleging widespread irregularities during the party’s presidential primary that produced Atiku Abubakar as its candidate.
