Arise Television’s The Morning Show anchor, Rufai Oseni, has cast serious doubt on the Federal Government’s decision to investigate the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), insisting that the outcome of the probe is already predictable.

Speaking during Wednesday’s edition of the programme, Oseni described President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) as “the greatest joke of the century,” arguing that the investigation would not produce any meaningful result.

According to the veteran broadcaster, public confidence in the investigation has already been weakened because the Presidency had earlier issued a statement defending the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, against allegations made by Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the controversial PFIPC.

Oseni questioned why the government would announce an investigation after, in his view, appearing to have taken a position on the matter from the outset.

“The Presidency calling for an investigation into the Adeyemi saga, I laugh. That’s the greatest joke of the century. Nothing… will come out of the investigation. It’s just another way to deceive and distract Nigerians,” he said.

The television anchor argued that the Presidency’s earlier response had already sent a clear signal about where it stood, making it difficult for the anti-corruption agency to conduct an impartial investigation involving individuals close to the current administration.

He also alleged that politically connected individuals rarely face prosecution unless they fall out with those in power, claiming that political loyalty often determines whether investigations are pursued.

Despite his criticism, Oseni maintained that everyone mentioned in the controversy should be invited to appear before investigators, stressing that no one should be presumed guilty before the facts are established.

His remarks come amid growing public interest in the PFIPC saga, which has sparked widespread political debate, with opposition parties, civil society groups and other commentators calling for a transparent investigation into the allegations surrounding the alleged agency and the individuals linked to it.

The ICPC is expected to carry out the investigation as directed by President Tinubu and submit its findings after concluding its review.
