The Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) 2023 presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has cautioned Nigerians against placing hope in politicians who frequently defect between political parties without transforming their leadership philosophy.
Speaking during an interview with journalists on Wednesday, Adebayo dismissed the credibility of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led opposition coalition, recalling that its leaders had earlier approached the SDP but failed to convince them with clear ideological depth.
“They came to us before they went to ADC. We had a robust conversation, but they had no answers to 99 percent of our questions. We simply told them to carry their baggage elsewhere,” Adebayo revealed.
He stressed that Nigeria’s political crisis was not about party names but about the funding models, governance ethics, and philosophical approach to leadership. According to him, defecting without changing political tendencies only worsens the nation’s challenges.
The SDP leader also dismissed claims of internal factionalization within his party, describing it as a disciplined organization where structures function effectively.
Adebayo urged Nigerians to embrace a new generation of leaders with integrity and innovative ideas, declaring: “Now is the time for a new direction. We must bid farewell to poverty and insecurity.”
