Shock in Anambra: Trader Arrested for Killing Apprentice, Storing Body in Refrigerator

Residents of Okpoko in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State were thrown into shock after a 30-year-old trader, identified as Leberechi, allegedly murdered his 25-year-old apprentice and concealed the dismembered body inside a refrigerator at his residence.

The chilling discovery was made after market traders at the Mgbuka Market along Onitsha-Owerri Road raised suspicions when the apprentice failed to show up after being last seen with the suspect on Saturday.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that Leberechi had lured the victim to his home under the guise of finalizing payment for goods. The body parts were later found stored in a refrigerator after a search led by concerned traders.

Police operatives from the Okpoko Division rescued the suspect from a mob that had attempted to lynch him. According to Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was in an unconscious state at the time of arrest and was rushed to a hospital under armed guard.

Ikenga confirmed that the remains of the victim were evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State CID in Awka for full investigation.

Authorities assured that justice will be served in line with the law.
