Peter Obi Promises 10,000MW Power Supply in Four Years Ahead of 2027 Election
The race toward the 2027 presidential election is already generating major conversations, and one of the latest promises drawing national attention is Peter Obi’s pledge to tackle Nigeria’s long-standing electricity challenge.
Speaking shortly after emerging as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Obi assured Nigerians that his administration would raise the country’s electricity supply to 10,000 megawatts within four years if elected. According to him, the commitment is based on careful planning and detailed studies rather than political rhetoric.
Obi emphasized that Nigeria’s power sector remains one of the biggest obstacles to economic growth, industrial development, and job creation. He noted that it is unacceptable for a nation with over 200 million people to generate and distribute only about 4,000 megawatts of electricity, leaving millions of households and businesses struggling with unreliable power supply.
Drawing comparisons with other African nations, Obi pointed out that countries such as South Africa and Egypt generate and distribute more than 40,000 megawatts each despite having significantly smaller populations. He argued that Nigeria’s current electricity output falls far below its potential and requires urgent intervention.
The presidential hopeful further stated that his administration would focus on practical solutions rather than excuses, insisting that improving power generation and distribution would become a top priority. Analysts believe that achieving 10,000MW could significantly improve business productivity, reduce dependence on generators, lower operational costs, and stimulate economic growth across key sectors.
As political campaigns begin to gather momentum, Obi’s electricity promise is expected to remain a key talking point among voters who continue to seek lasting solutions to Nigeria’s energy crisis. Whether the ambitious target can be achieved remains a subject of debate, but the pledge has certainly added a new dimension to discussions surrounding the 2027 election.
