IPOB Declares South-East Lockdown in Solidarity With Onitsha Traders

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced a peaceful sit-at-home across all five South-East states on Monday, February 2, 2026. The move shows solidarity with Onitsha traders, defying Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s order for markets to reopen on Mondays.

Emma Powerful, IPOB’s Media Secretary, described the lockdown as a “direct, peaceful, and unified response” to Soludo’s actions, which included shutting down Onitsha Main Market and threatening further closures, demolitions, and punitive measures.

The pro-Biafra group stressed that the sit-at-home aims to protect traders exercising their right to peaceful protest while highlighting continued support for IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Economic activities across Igboland and Biafran territories are expected to halt as residents observe the directive.

IPOB emphasizes that the action is non-violent, aiming to pressure the government to respect citizens’ rights and trader solidarity.
