Nollywood filmmaker and actor Stanley Amandi has been arrested alongside several military officers for alleged involvement in a plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Amandi, a former chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, was reportedly recruited by the coup plotters to serve as a propagandist in preparations for a violent takeover.
Investigations revealed the plot included plans to assassinate top government officials, including the President, Vice President, Senate President, and Speaker of the House of Representatives. The Defence Headquarters confirmed that investigations have concluded, with suspects to face either military tribunals or civil courts depending on their status.
Amandi is known for his work in Nollywood as a director, actor, and production manager, with credits including The Album, Tiger King, Cornerstone, and Once Upon a Dream. His arrest marks the first public disclosure of his alleged involvement in the foiled coup plot, intensifying attention on the probe into military and civilian actors linked to the planned overthrow.
