Media personality Toke Makinwa has candidly revisited her failed marriage, opening up about survival, strength, and how the public misunderstood her journey.
It was reports that during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the mother of one reflected on the struggles of navigating a highly public relationship and the harsh judgments people passed without knowing her reality.
Toke revealed that resilience is often misread, as many assume the experience was less difficult simply because she survived and moved forward.
She noted that some people become unsettled or even threatened when others recover and come back stronger, rather than learning from their resilience.
“People almost want to say it couldn’t have been that bad. Because you didn’t die. People love tragic endings… But when someone bounces back stronger, people envy your strength instead of being inspired. Until you’ve walked in my shoes, don’t comment,” she said.
The media star also admitted that her marriage’s public exposure influenced her decision to leave.
She explained that if her relationship had been private, she might have considered staying.
However, the depth of her feelings combined with a toxic environment made it unsafe, forcing her to prioritize her life and well-being over the marriage.
“Could I have stayed if it wasn’t so public? Maybe. But the way I loved this person, staying would have killed me. My emotions would have consumed my entire life,” she added.
