The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has assured its members that it will not repeat the internal mistakes that led to the exclusion of the party’s candidate in Ekiti State.
The Oyo State PDP Caretaker Committee gave the assurance while reacting to INEC’s decision not to publish the name of the PDP candidate for the forthcoming Ekiti governorship election due to unresolved internal disputes.
In a statement on Wednesday, the committee chairman, Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso, said lessons had been learnt from the Ekiti experience. He stressed that the crisis arose because the party failed to present its candidate within the time frame required by law.
Akinoso stated that the Oyo PDP was committed to internal democracy and legal compliance, assuring members that the party would field candidates duly recognised by law in the 2027 general elections.
He added that structures were already being strengthened to prevent avoidable disputes that could undermine the party’s chances at the polls.
