Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South has proposed reducing National Assembly activities and discretionary government spending to redirect funds toward tackling Nigeria’s rising insecurity. Speaking on Channels TV, he suggested lawmakers could meet quarterly and adjust compensation accordingly, arguing that current recurrent costs benefit only a few Nigerians.
Ndume also flagged inadequate technological capacity for tracking criminals, noting Nigeria operates only four satellites, one of which is faulty. He stressed the urgent need to prioritize public safety amid rising attacks and abductions.
The call comes as President Bola Tinubu declared a nationwide security emergency, ordering recruitment of 50,000 new police and military personnel to strengthen security nationwide.
