Lawyers Withdrew, Not Sacked, Says Kanu Advocate

Maxwell Opara, a lawyer and advocate for the pro-Biafra leader, Nnamdi Kanu, clarified that the IPOB leader never dismissed his legal team during his trial.

Opara stated this on Friday during an interview on Arise Television, as reported by DAILY POST.

“I can tell you that Mazi Kanu never sacked his lawyers. Rather, the lawyers withdrew,” he affirmed.

He explained that the lawyers provided their services voluntarily, highlighting that senior advocates such as Kanu Agabi, Onyechi Ikpeazu, and other legal experts were not financially compensated for their work.

“Nobody paid Kanu Agabi one naira. Nobody paid Onyechi Ikpeazu, and all of them. The seven senior advocates, including those of us, nobody paid us,” he stated.

Opara defended Kanu’s autonomy in the legal proceedings, emphasizing the defendant’s right to make decisions regarding his defense.
