Nigerians have expressed outrage after education consultant Alex Onyia exposed the alarming state of infrastructure at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), despite the institution reportedly receiving a ₦2.56 billion TETFund allocation.
Onyia shared a disturbing photo of one of the male hostels via his official X page, decrying the poor condition of the building. In his words:
“Here’s the recent TETFund allocation for UNN (₦2.56 billion). Look at what they achieved with it in the male hostel. It’s a shame!”
The photo showed visibly dilapidated walls, broken facilities, and unsanitary surroundings — a stark contrast to the huge funds reportedly disbursed for infrastructure development.
Many Nigerians online have since voiced their frustration, describing the situation as a reflection of the broader decay in Nigeria’s higher education system.
A user, @KaroBlvk, commented:
“Nigeria’s education system was defeated long ago when lecturers began failing students who didn’t buy their textbooks or handouts.”
Another user, @aprilbox, added:
“Imagine this environment producing graduates expected to provide 24/7 electricity — when they’ve never experienced it themselves.”
Calls have intensified for federal authorities and the TETFund to probe how funds allocated to the university were utilized, with many demanding accountability and urgent renovation of student hostels.
