2027 Shockwave: APM Throws Weight Behind Makinde, Begins Massive PDP Defection Drive

As political alignments ahead of the 2027 general election continue to gather momentum, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has made a major declaration that could reshape the opposition landscape.

The Osun State chapter of the APM has officially affirmed Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election, while simultaneously launching an aggressive campaign to attract members and structures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into its fold.

The announcement came after the party concluded its primary elections for National and State Assembly positions across Osun State.

Speaking after the exercise, the Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Adewale Adebayo, disclosed that Makinde’s affirmation received overwhelming support across all 332 wards in the state.

According to Adebayo, the development reflects the party’s confidence in Makinde’s leadership credentials and its determination to present a united front ahead of future elections.

“In every generation, political movements survive not only by competition, but by cohesion, discipline and collective purpose. Today, APM is sending that message clearly and boldly,” he stated.

The committee chairman described the primary elections as peaceful, transparent and a demonstration of consensus among party stakeholders.

He further noted that the endorsement of candidates across various elective positions showcased the party’s commitment to credible leadership and internal unity.

“The affirmation of our candidates across all elective positions reflects the confidence of the party in credible leadership and our determination to move forward as one united political family,” Adebayo said.

He added that democracy is not always about division and competition but can also be strengthened through trust, consultation and shared vision.

Makinde Officially Endorsed

Announcing the presidential endorsement, Adebayo declared that Governor Makinde had emerged as the sole presidential aspirant of the party and had consequently been affirmed as APM’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

“After the successful conduct of our primaries, we have today affirmed His Excellency, Seyi Makinde, the sole presidential aspirant of our great party, as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement for the 2027 general election,” he announced.

APM Targets PDP Members

Beyond the endorsement, the party revealed that it has activated reconciliation and expansion mechanisms aimed at attracting aggrieved politicians and supporters from the PDP and other political platforms.

The move is widely seen as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the party’s structure ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election and the 2027 nationwide polls.

Adebayo disclosed that efforts were already underway to engage dissatisfied members and encourage them to remain committed to the party’s vision.

The APM also extended an open invitation to PDP members and Nigerians seeking an alternative political platform, insisting that it offers a fresh opportunity for opposition politics and national development.

2027 Battle Lines Emerging

The endorsement of Makinde and the party’s push to absorb PDP structures signal the beginning of what could become one of the most intriguing political realignments ahead of 2027.

With opposition parties repositioning themselves and alliances taking shape, political observers believe the race for Nigeria’s highest office may become increasingly competitive in the months ahead.

Whether APM’s strategy will significantly alter the balance of power remains to be seen, but one thing is certain — the road to 2027 is already heating up.
