ADC Chieftain Predicts ‘Battle of the Titans’ as Political Temperature Begins to Rise
With the 2027 presidential election still some distance away, political conversations are already heating up following a bold declaration by prominent media personality and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dele Momodu, who believes the next presidential contest could be dominated by two familiar political heavyweights.
Momodu has described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the most formidable challenger to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, predicting that the race for Aso Rock may ultimately evolve into what he called a “battle of the titans.”
His remarks have sparked fresh discussions about the future of opposition politics and the shape of Nigeria’s electoral landscape ahead of the next general election.
According to Momodu, while a third political force could emerge as it did during the 2023 election cycle, such a movement may struggle to gather enough momentum to displace the influence, structure, and political experience of both Atiku and Tinubu.
The ADC stalwart argued that the changing political environment requires a departure from traditional political strategies. He urged political parties, particularly the ADC, to embrace modern approaches capable of connecting experienced politicians with technocrats, young voters, and emerging political interests.
Beyond electoral competition, Momodu emphasized the need for national reconciliation, reconstruction, and a return to issue-based politics. He lamented what he described as growing political tension and division across the country, warning that continued polarization could have serious consequences for national unity.
Drawing inspiration from Nigeria’s founding political leaders, he called for a revival of the ideals that once shaped public service and governance. According to him, the nation must move away from personal rivalries and focus on policies capable of addressing pressing national challenges.
His comments come at a time when political realignments, coalition talks, and strategic calculations are already beginning to take shape ahead of 2027. While no major party primaries have been held, conversations surrounding potential candidates continue to dominate political discourse.
As anticipation builds, Momodu’s prediction has added another layer of intrigue to what many observers believe could become one of Nigeria’s most fiercely contested presidential elections.
Whether his forecast proves accurate remains to be seen, but one thing is becoming increasingly clear—the road to 2027 is already taking shape, and the political battle lines are slowly being drawn.
