South Korea’s former First Lady, Kim Keon Hee, has been accused by prosecutors of accepting bribes worth over $200,000 while secretly influencing state affairs. Investigators allege that Kim, wife of disgraced ex-president Yoon Suk Yeol, received luxury gifts including designer handbags, jewellery, fine art and a wristwatch from business and religious figures.
Prosecutors said Kim illegally intervened in government and electoral processes, actions they claim severely undermined state institutions. The alleged bribes, valued at about 377.25 million won, reportedly include Chanel and Dior handbags, a Graff necklace and a Lee Ufan painting.
Authorities are seeking a 15-year prison sentence and a hefty fine, describing her actions as placing herself “above the law.” Kim has denied all allegations, calling them unjust.
