“You’re Not the First Woman to See Period” — Apostle Femi Lazarus Under Fire Over Menstruation Comment

Prominent Nigerian cleric, Apostle Femi Lazarus, has come under heavy criticism online after his recent comments about women’s menstrual cycles sparked outrage across social media platforms.

In a viral sermon clip, the preacher dismissed women’s emotional changes during menstruation, suggesting that such behavior reflects their personality rather than hormonal or physical discomfort.

“You are not the first woman to see your period, so your menstruation is not the problem. I have never seen anywhere in the Bible any woman complain about menstrual pain. You are simply not a peaceful person,” he said during the sermon.

The statement has since triggered a wave of backlash, with many accusing the cleric of insensitivity and ignorance toward the biological realities women face.

Women across social media condemned the remark, arguing that it trivializes menstrual pain and invalidates female experiences.

One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote:

“You are sick… Preach Jesus, not gender!”

Another user added:

“This is why women are tired of male preachers talking about what they don’t understand.”

Critics insist that male religious leaders should avoid making uninformed statements about women’s health and instead promote empathy and understanding.

However, a few defenders of Apostle Lazarus claimed that his words were taken out of context, arguing that he was emphasizing emotional maturity rather than mocking menstruation.

Despite the divided opinions, the controversy has fueled a broader conversation about gender sensitivity in Nigerian religious circles and the need for awareness on women’s health topics.
