Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has stated that President Bola Tinubu should not be held responsible for the ongoing crisis tearing apart the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Fayose made the statement on Wednesday during an interview on Politics Today, a political programme aired on Channels Television and monitored by DAILY POST.
The outspoken politician described the PDP as “dead” and beyond redemption, stressing that he would not be among those attempting to “resurrect” the party.
According to Fayose, the internal disunity and endless leadership battles within the PDP were self-inflicted, not orchestrated by President Tinubu or the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“It will be unfair to blame Tinubu for the recent defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and his Bayelsa State counterpart, Duoye Diri, to the APC,” Fayose said.
He further hinted that the few remaining PDP governors were already weighing their options and could soon dump the party for the APC, citing frustration and lack of direction within the opposition.
Fayose, a two-term governor and former PDP strongman, noted that the party had lost its political relevance and moral authority to challenge the ruling government.
Political analysts believe Fayose’s comments reflect the deepening cracks within the PDP following a series of high-profile defections and internal divisions, especially in the southern states.
