SAN Hails Tinubu’s Appointment of Prof. Joash Amupitan as INEC Chairman, Calls It His Best Decision Yet

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Jibrin Okutepa has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointment of Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as “the best appointment the President has made so far.”

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Okutepa said Professor Amupitan’s integrity, professionalism, and experience make him well-suited to lead the nation’s electoral body, especially after the completion of Professor Mahmood Yakubu’s tenure.

According to the respected legal luminary, the newly appointed INEC boss is a man of “unquestionable character and deep knowledge of the law,” adding that he has no doubt Amupitan will deliver credible elections if he remains steadfast and uncompromised.

Okutepa, however, issued a word of caution to the law professor, urging him to guard against political influence and corruption, which have often tainted public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral processes.

He said, “Professor Amupitan must not allow himself to be corrupted. Nigerians have lost faith in the electoral system, and it is now his duty to restore that confidence. This is his opportunity to write his name in gold.”

The appointment of Professor Joash Amupitan has sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians expressing optimism that his leadership could bring about long-awaited reforms in the conduct of elections and voter confidence in INEC.
