There is widespread outrage after a heartbreaking video surfaced online showing a three-year-old girl allegedly beaten by her teacher at Emem Nursery and Primary School, Abakpa Nike, Enugu State.
In the viral footage, the child’s mother, overwhelmed with tears, filmed her daughter’s legs covered in red marks and bruises. The little girl, visibly in pain, struggled to walk.
The distraught mother explained that she received a call from the school, informing her that her daughter could no longer walk after being disciplined by a teacher. Upon arriving, she found her child in severe pain and covered with injuries.
Expressing anger and disbelief, the woman vowed to ensure the teacher responsible faces justice and demanded that the teacher cover her daughter’s medical expenses. “No parent should ever go through this kind of pain,” she said.
The video has since gone viral across social media platforms, drawing condemnation from Nigerians who called for the teacher’s arrest and the school’s immediate closure.
A user, Chi, wrote, “If this ever happened to my child, I wouldn’t have time to film. Just know there would be chaos.”
Another commenter, Covenant, added, “How do you flog a three-year-old like this? Some people clearly weren’t raised with love.”
Others described the teacher’s action as “inhumane,” “cruel,” and a “clear case of child abuse.”
Concerned Nigerians have urged the Enugu State Ministry of Education and child protection agencies to launch an investigation and ensure justice for the young girl.
Parents have also used the opportunity to remind schools of the dangers of corporal punishment, especially on toddlers, warning that it can cause lasting trauma and physical damage.
As of the time of this report, the management of Emem Nursery and Primary School has not issued any official statement, while the victim is reportedly receiving medical attention and support from her mother.
