Royal fathers from Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, under the umbrella of Origbo Meje Obas, have issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, demanding he provide concrete evidence to back up his claims against the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
The ultimatum was disclosed on Thursday during a press briefing held by the Origbo Meje Obas, who expressed displeasure over the alleged remarks made by the Oluwo.
The monarchs stated that Oba Akanbi’s allegations had the potential to create disunity within the traditional institution and destabilize peace in Yorubaland. They further noted that such weighty claims against the Ooni, who is regarded as the paramount ruler of the Yoruba race, must not be left without proof.
Speaking on behalf of the Origbo Obas, one of the royal fathers insisted that the Oluwo should either present verifiable evidence or retract his statements within 21 days to avoid further escalation of the matter.
The traditional rulers stressed that the unity of the Yoruba kingdom must not be jeopardized by unfounded allegations, urging Oba Akanbi to tread with caution and protect the dignity of the institution he represents.
This latest development adds fresh tension to the ongoing friction between the Oluwo and other Yoruba monarchs, raising concerns about the stability of traditional leadership in Osun State.
