The Director of Mobilisation for the Obidient Movement, Morris Monye, has officially resigned from his role, citing a lack of communication with former presidential candidate Peter Obi as a key reason.
In a statement he personally signed on Thursday, Monye accused Obi of neglecting the movement. He highlighted the absence of communication between Obi and the Obidient Movement as a significant concern.
Monye detailed several reasons for his resignation, including the movement’s unfulfilled goals, lack of structure, and instances of personal harassment.
Despite his dedication and financial investment in promoting Obi’s presidential ambition, Monye expressed frustration over the poor performance in the recent Anambra election, describing his position as “untenable.”
He stated, “No money was given to the Directorate of Mobilisation. There’s no bank account even for the directorate. In fact, Mr Peter Obi has never asked what we are doing in mobilisation, no communication, nothing.
“Almost a year down the line, most of our short, medium, and long-term plans have not been met. I won’t be part of optics and no work.”
Monye also mentioned that he independently raised funds for the Obidient candidate in the recent gubernatorial election in Anambra State. Furthermore, he initiated a plan to supply polling unit agents with affordable body cameras for election accountability, which he urged his successor to complete.
“The next director must follow up on this. We have not closed it out yet,” he added.
