NSCDC Arrests Suspects with Truckload of Telecom Masts, Illegal Miners in Niger State

The Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has paraded two suspects, Mustapha Aliyu and Abubakar Safyanu, arrested with a truck loaded with telecommunication masts worth millions of naira along the Tafa-Suleja road.

The State Commandant, Suberu Siyaka Aniviye, disclosed this during a media briefing at the NSCDC headquarters in Minna. He explained that the corps’ anti-vandal team, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted the suspects along the Tafa-Suleja axis, where the stolen masts were being transported.

In a separate operation, Aniviye confirmed the arrest of seven male suspects over alleged illegal mining activities at Kataeregi, along Bida road. The men were caught with a Sharon vehicle loaded with mining products.

One of the suspects, Mahmoud Idris, confessed to engaging in illegal mining without a license. He admitted to hiring laborers and selling Zico mineral to local dealers.

Commandant Aniviye vowed to intensify crackdowns on criminals across the state, stressing that Niger State would be made uncomfortable for vandals, illegal miners, and other criminal elements.

“The NSCDC is committed to safeguarding national assets and infrastructure. With the support of the Commandant-General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, and Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, we will ensure a crime-free society,” Aniviye stated.

He further assured that the NSCDC will continue to collaborate with sister security agencies to protect lives, properties, and public infrastructure in the state.
