In a major step toward promoting transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s digital governance, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have inaugurated a Joint Task Force on Digital Governance and Anti-Corruption.

According to NITDA, the newly established task force will focus on identifying and mitigating corruption risks linked to government IT projects, enhancing enforcement mechanisms, and ensuring that technology serves as an effective tool for service delivery across public institutions.

The initiative was officially unveiled at the ICPC Headquarters in Abuja during a high-level courtesy visit by the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, to the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Aliyu. The announcement was confirmed in a statement by NITDA’s Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hadiza Umar.

Abdullahi emphasized that the IT Project Clearance initiative is a critical safeguard for national accountability, designed to track government IT expenditures and prevent duplication of efforts. He noted that the policy promotes collaboration among Federal Public Institutions (FPIs) and ensures efficient resource sharing.

“The IT clearance regulation is designed to ensure that government technology projects are properly conceptualized and executed in line with global best practices. It guarantees value-for-money investments, reduces duplication, and supports the creation of a unified digital government,” Abdullahi stated.

He further explained that the collaboration between NITDA and ICPC aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at building a $1 trillion economy driven by digital transformation, improved ease of doing business, and the elimination of corruption as a barrier to national growth.

On his part, ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Aliyu, commended the partnership and affirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting NITDA’s regulatory framework. He emphasized that corruption in IT procurement erodes public trust and hinders economic development, pledging ICPC’s readiness to hold erring contractors and officials accountable.

This collaboration is expected to mark a new era of transparency in Nigeria’s public IT projects, reinforcing digital governance as a key driver of economic growth and institutional integrity.
