Kwara State Government has activated proactive security measures in schools within five local government areas as part of efforts to ensure a safer environment for students.
The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, made this announcement in a statement released in Ilorin on Wednesday.
The measures will be implemented in schools located in Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke Ero Local Government Areas.
This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to countering the threat of kidnappers, who may target school children as human shields amidst intensified security operations.
According to the commissioner, the security measures extend to boarding schools in Irepodun, which could be vulnerable to criminal activities as security operations intensify.
The commissioner noted that these measures might remain in place pending further security clearance, allowing for normal activities to resume.
It is noteworthy that armed bandits recently attacked Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Kebbi State, abducting 25 students, of whom three have managed to escape.
