Kogi State Government Hails Appointment of Prof. Joash Amupitan as New INEC Chairman

The Kogi State Government has congratulated Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, on his appointment as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement issued in Lokoja on Thursday, October 9, 2025, and signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the state government described the appointment as a testament to President Tinubu’s commitment to merit, excellence, and national inclusiveness in leadership.

“The Government and people of Kogi State express profound appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for appointing Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, a distinguished son of Kogi State, as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission,” the statement read.

The government praised Prof. Amupitan as a “renowned legal scholar, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and respected administrator” known for his impartiality, integrity, and intellectual depth—qualities deemed crucial for strengthening Nigeria’s electoral system.

Fanwo further assured the President that Prof. Amupitan would uphold the confidence reposed in him, stating that he will “bring honour to Kogi State and Nigeria through his dedication to credible and transparent elections.”

Concluding, the government extended its warm wishes: “We heartily congratulate Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, on this well-deserved national assignment and pray for divine wisdom and success as he leads INEC into a new era of electoral transparency.”
