Jonathan’s Cousin Denies Reports of Ex-President Withdrawing from 2027 Race

Azibaola Robert, cousin of former President Goodluck Jonathan, has dismissed reports suggesting that the ex-president has stepped aside from the 2027 presidential election.

The clarification follows a publication alleging that Jonathan had opted out of the race to preserve Southern unity.

Robert, however, described the report—originally credited to Newsweek Nigeria—as “fake and misleading.” He noted that the supposed aide of Jonathan quoted in the article does not exist.

Taking to his verified Facebook page on Friday, Robert emphasized that the former president has not made any statement indicating he will not contest in 2027.

“The former president has made it clear that he would not yield to calls not to run since those making such admonition had selfish motives,” Robert stated.

He further explained that Jonathan has neither confirmed nor denied his interest in the 2027 presidential election.
“He has not told anyone that he will not contest when the time for election is ripe,” Robert added, urging Nigerians to disregard any contrary claims.

This development comes as speculation continues to grow over Jonathan’s political consultations across the country ahead of a possible bid for the presidency in 2027.
