CJN Launches Online Portal for Notaries Public Applications in Nigeria

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Motomori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, has approved the commencement of online applications for lawyers seeking appointment as Notaries Public in the country.

This move, described as a landmark step by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, is aimed at revolutionizing the appointment process for legal practitioners and enhancing efficiency in judicial administration.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Court, Dr. Festus Akande, said the decision underscores the judiciary’s commitment to embracing digital innovation, promoting transparency, and improving accessibility for members of the legal profession.

“This pivotal decision underscores the judiciary’s unwavering commitment to embracing digital innovation, enhancing efficiency, and fostering greater accessibility within the legal community,” the statement read in part.

According to the Court, the newly introduced digital platform replaces the previously paper-intensive process, thereby streamlining submissions, reducing administrative bottlenecks, and ensuring a faster review of applications.

Qualified legal practitioners are now required to submit their applications via the new online portal: https://notary.gov.ng.

The Court assured that the secure, user-friendly portal has been carefully designed to guide applicants step-by-step, ensuring a seamless and straightforward experience for all lawyers applying to become Notaries Public.

This development is expected to usher in a new era of convenience, accountability, and innovation in the judiciary’s service delivery.
