A moment of political triumph was briefly punctuated by tension on Sunday in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area, as policemen attached to Governor Chukwuma Soludo fired gunshots into the air moments after he was officially declared the winner of the 2025 Anambra State governorship election.
Naija News learned that the incident occurred at the Governor’s private residence. Security operatives assigned to his detail reportedly released the volley of shots as a form of celebratory gesture following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) announcement confirming Soludo’s sweeping victory across all 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
Governor Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) secured a landslide re-election, polling an impressive 422,664 votes. He decisively defeated his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 99,445 votes. Other contenders, including Paul Chukwuma of the YPP and John Nwosu of the ADC, trailed far behind.
The victory was particularly symbolic as Soludo, hailing from Isuofia in Aguata LGA, also defeated candidates like Moghalu of the Labour Party in their own home base of Nnewi North Local Government Area. While the gunfire was intended as a celebration of this overwhelming mandate, the act of armed security forces discharging weapons in a residential area raised concerns and briefly disrupted the festive atmosphere.
