Yoruba actress and filmmaker, Ashabi Simple, the partner of controversial Nigerian singer Portable, has responded to critics who constantly mock her for staying with the street-hop star despite his controversies and marriage status.
In a new Instagram post, Ashabi addressed those questioning her love for Portable, asking rhetorically whether anyone can truly “keep a man that doesn’t want to be kept.” She expressed gratitude to God for blessing her with her partner and declared her contentment with their relationship.
“Any small thing, you dey force love ni yenyenyen. Can you keep a man that doesn’t want to be kept? Thank God for the blessing of my man, I’m grateful,” she wrote.
Her post immediately drew mixed reactions online, as fans and critics flooded her comment section.
One user, @arikesilva, wrote, “Love mi. Give dem bucket, wishing dem more tears.”
Another, @pretty_funmite, added, “Them go cry tire, na crime to be a second wife? At least she be wife, no be baby mama.”
Despite the trolling, Ashabi has remained consistent in publicly expressing her affection for Portable.
Just last month, she reflected on her relationship journey, saying she had learned to enjoy her moments with her partner and let things flow naturally.
She wrote, “No one belongs to anyone. Enjoy your time with your partner, let it flow, and live in the moment.”
In another emotional post, Ashabi prayed that God would not separate her and Portable through untimely death, describing every moment with him as a gift.
Their relationship, which has spanned nearly two years, has seen its share of ups and downs — from public spats to reconciliations. Yet, one thing remains clear: Ashabi’s love for Portable has not wavered, no matter the criticism.
