Nigeria Needs “Unblemished” INEC Chairman After Mahmood Yakubu – Says Yiaga Africa Boss Samson Itodo

The Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, Samson Itodo, has stressed that Nigeria requires a person of unblemished character to serve as the next national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Itodo said the successor to the incumbent chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, must be an individual without political affiliations and courageous enough to uphold the law, irrespective of political pressures.

According to him, the integrity of the electoral body hinges on leadership that prioritizes fairness, justice, and transparency.

“We need someone who has no political affiliation, someone who is bold and courageous to do the lawful thing, no matter whose ox is gored,” Itodo stated.

The Yiaga Africa chief further observed that although INEC has achieved remarkable electoral reforms, these gains have been undermined by persistent electoral fraud.

His remarks come amid growing national debate over electoral integrity, the credibility of past elections, and the type of leadership that should guide Nigeria’s electoral process in the future.
