Detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has formally petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) for urgent medical attention due to his deteriorating health condition in custody.
According to SaharaReporters, the petition was submitted through his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, on September 23, 2025, under the title, “Re: Request for your Urgent Approval of Hospital for the Admission of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”
The petition requests immediate admission to Clover Hospital, located at No. 11 Agadez Crescent, Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, with Dr. Michael Eze as the attending physician. The hospital reportedly scheduled to admit Kanu between the day of the petition and the following day.
“With reference to the latest medical evaluation of Mazi Nnamdi by your team of physicians (in the presence of his brother, Prince Emmanuel), we hereby seek your kind and urgent approval of the hospital selected for the prompt admission and further management of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s health,” the letter reads.
IPOB has raised serious concerns over Kanu’s health, accusing the DSS of providing inadequate medical care and warning of severe consequences for Nigeria and the region if his condition worsens.
The development has reignited discussions about detainees’ welfare and the responsibility of Nigerian security agencies to provide proper medical attention.
