The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a swipe at the Presidency following its recent statement that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has no intention of extending his tenure beyond 2031.
In a strongly worded reaction issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party described the Presidency’s remarks as “presumptuous and patently undemocratic.”
According to the ADC, Tinubu’s constitutional mandate ends in 2027, stressing that Nigerians are already weary of his government and will not accept any tenure elongation.
The party lamented what it called a deepening national crisis, pointing to worsening insecurity and an economy in freefall.
“Under his watch, national security has degenerated into a cruel joke. Terrorists, bandits, and criminals now operate with impunity. Citizens are kidnapped in broad daylight while rural communities have turned into warzones,” the statement read.
On the economy, the ADC said the naira has collapsed, inflation is spiraling out of control, and food prices have tripled in several states.
It added that businesses are shutting down under the burden of punitive taxes and inconsistent policies, while unemployment surges and the middle class steadily disappears.
The party concluded that the APC-led administration has left Nigerians “poorer, hungrier, and angrier than before Tinubu assumed office,” insisting that the President must be prepared to hand over power to a more competent leader in 2027.
