The Presidency has confirmed that President Bola Tinubu made a significant visit to Kaduna State, a region often labeled as a ‘no-go area’ for him. This visit comes amidst speculation that the North harbors animosity towards him and doubts about the All Progressives Congress (APC) support in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, highlighted that the President attended a wedding ceremony and paid a visit to Aisha, the widow of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, during his one-day working trip.
Dare emphasized the importance of Kaduna, noting it as the spiritual base of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and a political launch pad for Buhari. In a detailed post on X, he remarked, ‘This is the city that birthed the famed Kaduna Mafia, a powerful network of northern technocrats, politicians, military brass, and businessmen who have shaped policy and leadership recruitment in Nigeria.’
He further elaborated on Kaduna’s historical significance, stating, ‘From crises resolved within its walls to alliances born in its corridors, Kaduna’s pedigree as the lodestar of northern politics remains unchallenged.’ Despite the charged political atmosphere and narratives suggesting hostility towards him, Tinubu’s visit signifies a bold assertion of his political presence in the North.
As the President continues to navigate the complexities of regional politics, this trip reinforces the notion that the North remains aligned with the APC.
