PDP Sends Strong Warning to Governor Fubara: ‘Don’t Abandon the Party After Reinstatement’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has appealed to Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State not to turn his back on the party following his reinstatement after months of political crisis.

Speaking in Lagos, the PDP Vice-Chairman for Lagos Central, Mr. Hakeem Olalemi, urged the governor to remain courageous, focused, and committed to delivering good governance, while also strengthening the party that brought him into power.

“The governor should not muster any fear, the deed has been done. He should continue strong and be faithful in doing what is expected of him as the governor of the state. Fubara must make Rivers great again. The governor should nurture the party that brought him to power into a bigger platform; he should not jettison that party,” Olalemi said.

Call for Unity and Peace

Olalemi stressed that there was no need for over-celebration of Fubara’s reinstatement, noting that the real focus should be on governance, peace, and the welfare of Rivers people.

“Our advice to the legislative and executive arms is to work together and in harmony for the betterment of the good people of Rivers. These are the people that voted them, and their interest should supersede all politics and politicking,” he added.

Return to Office After Emergency Rule

It will be recalled that President Bola Tinubu declared a six-month emergency rule in Rivers on March 18, following the political standoff between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, now FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

The proclamation suspended Fubara and the state assembly, with retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas installed as Sole Administrator.

On Wednesday, Tinubu lifted the emergency rule and directed elected officials to resume duties. By Thursday, Governor Fubara, his deputy Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the State Assembly officially returned to office.

Olalemi further called on lawmakers who aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the crisis to return to PDP, stressing that the will and welfare of the electorate must always come before partisan battles.
