Nigeria Police Nab and Repatriate High-Profile Chinese Fugitive in Landmark INTERPOL

In a major crackdown on transnational organized crime, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has successfully arrested and repatriated Mr. Dai Qisheng, a high-profile Chinese fugitive, to the People’s Republic of China.

The operation was coordinated by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, in close collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in international law enforcement cooperation.

Mr. Dai, a notorious gang leader accused of orchestrating violent crimes in Guizhou Province, China, fled the country in 2024 after an arrest warrant was issued by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County. He remained on the run until INTERPOL operatives in Nigeria tracked him down and arrested him in Abuja on August 8, 2025.

He was officially repatriated to Beijing on August 15, 2025, under a police-to-police cooperation framework facilitated by INTERPOL.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the successful operation, stressing that it demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to global justice and security.

“This operation sends a clear message to criminals worldwide: Nigeria will not be a safe haven for fugitives,” the IGP declared.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, also highlighted the importance of intelligence-sharing and strong alliances in dismantling global criminal networks.

With this landmark operation, the Nigeria Police Force has once again proven itself a reliable partner in the international fight against organized crime.
