The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has applauded President Bola Tinubu’s decision to lift the state of emergency in Rivers State, describing it as a bold move to restore peace and democracy in the state.
In a statement released on Wednesday through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike praised Tinubu’s intervention, saying it had reaffirmed the President’s commitment to democratic governance and national stability.
Naija News recalls that earlier on Wednesday, President Tinubu officially ended the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State and reinstated Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who had been suspended following months of political crises between him and Wike.
Tinubu, in his directive dated September 17, 2025, ordered that Fubara resume office on Thursday, September 18.
Reacting to the development, Wike commended the President for what he called a restoration of confidence in leadership, noting that the people of Rivers State had remained steadfast in their support for Tinubu’s vision to return Nigeria to the path of peace, progress, and development.
He also called on all stakeholders in Rivers State to put aside differences and work together in the interest of the state and its people.
The Minister, however, cautioned against “fifth columnists” and political troublemakers, warning them to steer clear of the state.
“From Rivers State going forward, the only news that will emanate will be that of peace, progress and development,” Wike declared.
