Atalanta coach Ivan Juric has dismissed controversy surrounding Nigerian star Ademola Lookman, who has been left out of the Italian side’s 23-man squad for their UEFA Champions League group stage opener against Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes.
Lookman, 27, has yet to make an appearance this season following a failed summer transfer move to Inter Milan. Since then, he has been training away from Atalanta’s main group, sparking speculation about his future at the club.
Juric Stays Calm
Speaking to Sky Sport ahead of the game, Juric insisted the situation was under control and would not distract the squad.
“The Lookman scandal? We’re very calm, we talked to him and we’ve been clear. We’re only thinking about tomorrow’s match,” Juric said, as reported by fcinter1908.
The Croatian tactician emphasized that Atalanta’s focus remains firmly on the pitch. “Our priority is the game, and the group is united. That is the most important thing,” he added.
A Big Miss for Atalanta
Lookman has been a key figure since joining Atalanta in 2022, producing decisive goals in Serie A and European competitions. His most iconic moment came in 2024, when he scored a sensational hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, delivering the club’s first-ever European trophy.
The feat made him only the sixth player to net a hat-trick in a European final, cementing his place in Atalanta’s history.
PSG Challenge Awaits
Atalanta now face a daunting task against defending champions PSG. Juric has confirmed a 23-man squad, with new signings and senior players expected to rise to the occasion against the French giants.
While Lookman’s absence is notable, Juric has made it clear that the team’s unity and preparation are the real focus as they begin their Champions League campaign.
