The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized Rauf Aregbesola, the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), for his recent comments regarding the opposition coalition’s plans to take over Aso Rock and the Lagos State government in the 2027 elections.
It was reported that Aregbesola, a former governor and minister of the interior with a history in the APC, claimed on Saturday that the ADC would unseat President Bola Tinubu during the upcoming general elections.
His remarks were made while launching a grassroots mobilization strategy aimed at achieving victories at both the federal and state levels.
In response, APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo issued a statement on Sunday, mocking Aregbesola and labeling him a ‘wandering tenant’ in a minor opposition party. Oladejo emphasized that Aregbesola’s attempts to regain relevance are misguided, stating, ‘He is busy setting fire to the same house that made him.’
Oladejo further remarked, ‘Here is a man who was once a proud landlord in the progressive family, now reduced to a wandering tenant in a mushroom opposition party.’ He added that Aregbesola’s leadership of the ADC would lead to failure, saying, ‘If the opposition ADC thinks the former governor is the one to lead them to electoral glory, then they are preparing for a funeral, not a victory.’
He concluded by asserting that Aregbesola’s departure from the APC has diminished his political relevance, stating, ‘By turning his back on the progressive family that made him, he has written himself out of history and into the footnotes of infamy.’
According to Oladejo, if the ADC continues to rely on Aregbesola, they will only face ridicule in the 2027 elections.
