Trump Calls for Unified NATO Action Before Imposing Sanctions on Russia

United States President Donald Trump announced on Saturday his readiness to impose sanctions on Russia, contingent upon a unified response from NATO allies. He emphasized that such actions would only be taken if all NATO nations agree to halt their purchases of Russian oil and implement their own sanctions.

In a statement described as a letter to NATO nations and the global community, Trump stated, “I am ready to do major sanctions on Russia when all NATO Nations have agreed, and started, to do the same thing.” He underscored the importance of coordinated action within the transatlantic alliance, adding that sanctions would also apply “when all NATO Nations STOP BUYING OIL FROM RUSSIA.”

Additionally, Trump urged NATO to consider imposing tariffs ranging from 50 to 100 percent on China, suggesting that this could help end Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine. “I believe that (NATO sanctions on Russia), plus NATO, as a group, placing 50% to 100% TARIFFS ON CHINA, to be fully withdrawn after the WAR with Russia and Ukraine is ended, will also be of great help in ENDING this deadly, but RIDICULOUS, WAR,” he stated.

Trump criticized NATO members for their continued purchase of Russian oil, calling it “shocking” and arguing that it undermines the alliance’s bargaining power against Moscow. He warned that failure to act according to his conditions would mean “just wasting my time.”
