Veteran Nigerian comedian, Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, widely known as Alibaba, has shared his thoughts on the recent killing of American conservative activist, Charlie Kirk. In a video posted on Instagram, Alibaba described the incident as tragic and expressed relief that the suspect was not a person of color.
“I can’t put into words how relieved I was when I found out the suspect wasn’t Black. It would have been worse,” Alibaba stated, highlighting concerns about potential racial tensions that could have arisen from the incident.
The killing has garnered global attention, particularly after authorities identified the suspect as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah. Reports indicate that Robinson, although registered as a nonpartisan voter, came from a Republican, pro-gun family and had been increasingly vocal about his political views.
Family discussions revealed that Robinson had criticized Kirk, accusing him of fostering division. Academically, Robinson had a notable ACT score of 34 and briefly attended Utah State University on a scholarship in 2021 before dropping out after one semester.
In related news, American rapper Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., known as DDG, has announced plans to relocate from Los Angeles to Lagos, Nigeria, amid an ongoing custody battle with his former partner, actress and singer Halle Bailey, over their 17-month-old son, Halo.
