Fresh cracks have emerged in the Labour Party (LP) as its National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, has categorically declared that Peter Obi will not secure the party’s presidential ticket in 2027.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics on Monday, Arabambi said the LP would field its 2027 candidate without Obi, insisting the party can exist beyond his influence.
“We are going to do our 2027 without Peter Obi; he will not have our ticket,” Arabambi said.
The LP spokesman also accused the party’s acting National Chairperson, Nenadi Usman, and activist Aisha Yesufu of colluding with Obi to destabilize the party. He warned that disciplinary action would soon be taken to remove them.
Arabambi further challenged Obi to formally announce his exit from the LP, claiming the former Anambra governor has “one leg in Labour Party, one leg in PDP, and one leg in ADC.”
He downplayed Obi’s role in the LP’s strong 2023 showing, attributing the momentum to the EndSARS movement and public anger against Muhammadu Buhari’s administration rather than Obi’s personal popularity.
“The momentum in 2023 was not because of Peter Obi, but because of EndSARS. Obi was just a man who came to whip as a result of Nigeria’s tiredness of the scandalous administration of Buhari,” Arabambi argued.
The development has sparked fresh uncertainty over Obi’s political future and raised questions about whether he will remain in the Labour Party or defect ahead of the 2027 elections.
