Nigerian activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi, has gone viral after launching a scathing attack on the newly introduced petroleum tax, describing it as an “evil system” deliberately designed to keep citizens enslaved.
In a video trending online, Farotimi accused Nigerians of tolerating unfair government policies by quietly making payments without resistance. He said the time had come to demand accountability and resist exploitative laws.
Farotimi explained that the original petroleum tax law was introduced during the subsidy era, with revenue earmarked for the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to fund road projects. However, he alleged the money had consistently been looted over the years.
“When that law was made, there was fuel subsidy. That money was meant to go to FERMA for the maintenance of federal roads, but they’ve just been chopping the money. Now there’s no fuel subsidy again. Then petrol was like ₦100,” he said.
The activist did not stop there. He openly called on fellow public figures and activists to rise against the policy.
“At this point, I’m calling out Yele Sowore, Bello Galadanchi, I’m calling out every person who claims to be an activist. We must resist this fuel taxation. We must resist it,” he declared.
His fiery statement has sparked heated debates online, with many Nigerians applauding his courage while others remain skeptical about whether such resistance can truly force change.
