The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has successfully thwarted repeated bandit attacks on farmers in Nteng village, Deomak District, Qua’ran-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In a statement on Friday, NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale confirmed the operation, which was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and Police.
The intervention followed directives from the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Audi, who ordered the immediate deployment of a Special Intelligence Squad to address escalating insecurity in the region.
Commandant Apollos Dandaura, head of the squad, explained that an “intelligence-driven operational mechanism” was established to prevent the incessant assaults.
The attacks had previously displaced more than 4,000 residents and led to the destruction of lives, farmlands, homes, health facilities, and public infrastructure. Many displaced villagers are currently sheltered in a primary school serving as a temporary camp.
Dandaura attributed the success of the latest operation to strong collaboration between all security agencies, noting that a joint guard post has now been established in Nteng to maintain law and order.
“The synergy amongst the security agencies who worked relentlessly to safeguard Nteng village is highly commendable. Communities such as Doop, Keolakan, Jepmorop, and Gorom can now feel safer,” he said.
As part of broader efforts, the NSCDC has also begun assessments to deploy its Agro Rangers Squad. The unit is tasked with protecting farmers, preventing further attacks, and promoting peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.
“Our goal is to enhance security for farmers, protect crops, and ensure innocent citizens can go about their lives without fear,” Dandaura concluded.
