Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised a suspected bandit during a midnight ambush in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, recovering weapons and a motorcycle in the process.
The operation, carried out by soldiers of the 22 Armoured Brigade at the Forward Operating Base in Patigi, followed intelligence reports of armed bandits moving along the Lema–Daban Lema Road.
Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Stephen Nwankwo, confirmed in a statement on Thursday that the ambush took place around 12:10 am. He noted that the troops engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle, which left one dead while others escaped.
Recovered items included one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and a motorcycle. The body of the neutralised suspect was handed over to the appropriate authorities.
Commending the troops, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, praised their resilience and assured residents that operations will intensify to rid Kwara communities of bandits and other criminal elements.
