2027: ‘We Have Problems’ – Buba Galadima Speaks on Obi-Kwankwaso Alliance

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain Buba Galadima has admitted that efforts to build support for a Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election are facing challenges, but insists the obstacles can be overcome.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Galadima acknowledged that forming a broad political alliance is never easy. However, he expressed confidence that ongoing discussions would eventually yield positive results, describing the current difficulties as part of the political process.

“We have a lot of problems, but the problems are not insurmountable. We will overcome those problems,” Galadima said while addressing questions about the proposed alliance.

The NDC chieftain also appealed to Nigerians not to judge Peter Obi based on historical events surrounding the 1966 military coup. According to him, Obi should not be held responsible for actions that occurred long before his involvement in national politics.

Galadima argued that true national reconciliation requires Nigerians to move beyond old ethnic and political grievances. He stressed that individuals should be assessed based on their personal actions and leadership qualities rather than historical narratives involving their ethnic background.

Drawing from Nigeria’s history, he cited the late Biafran leader, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, who was later pardoned after the Nigerian Civil War and returned to participate in the country’s democratic process. According to Galadima, this demonstrates that forgiveness and reconciliation remain essential for national unity.

He also urged Nigerians to examine the full history of the 1966 crisis, noting that people from different ethnic groups, including many Igbos, also lost their lives during the period. In his view, focusing only on one side of the conflict risks deepening divisions instead of promoting healing.

Comparing the situation to ongoing international conflicts where rivals continue peace negotiations despite past hostilities, Galadima maintained that dialogue remains the best path toward resolving political disagreements.

As coalition talks continue ahead of the 2027 elections, his remarks are expected to fuel fresh conversations about national unity, political alliances and the possibility of an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket emerging as a major force in Nigeria’s next presidential race.
