Fresh political tension has erupted in Abuja after the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately remove his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations tied to the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

The opposition party, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, insisted that Gbajabiamila should step aside to allow what it described as an independent and transparent investigation into claims surrounding the alleged agency.

At the heart of the controversy are allegations made by Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to have served as Director-General of the PFIPC. According to the NDC, the Presidency has denied the existence of the agency, yet Adeyemi alleged it received allocations in the 2026 budget and operated several accounts, including domiciliary and Treasury Single Accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The party questioned how an agency reportedly described as non-existent could allegedly secure financial accounts and approvals for hundreds of staff positions without raising concerns within government institutions. It also referenced allegations that Adeyemi paid huge sums to obtain his appointment, claims that remain unproven.

Adding another layer of intrigue, the NDC pointed to the reported death of Babatunde Tanimola, described as an intermediary in the matter, as well as Adeyemi’s claims that he survived multiple assassination attempts. The party argued that these developments make a thorough investigation even more urgent.

Consequently, the NDC called for the immediate suspension of Gbajabiamila, the establishment of an independent investigative panel, witness protection for Adeyemi, forensic examination of relevant official documents, and investigations involving the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant-General, and the Head of the Civil Service.

The party also urged the EFCC, ICPC, and the Nigeria Police Force to launch a comprehensive investigation, stressing that the allegations should be thoroughly examined and that anyone found culpable should face the full weight of the law. At the time of reporting, the allegations remain unproven and have not been established by any court or investigative body.
