Kano lawmaker and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) chieftain, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has disclosed how his effort to reconcile former governors Abdullahi Ganduje and Rabiu Kwankwaso collapsed, despite his consistent push for unity.
Speaking during an interview on Politics Today aired on Channels Television on Wednesday, Jibrin noted that only the two political giants can ultimately decide to end their rift.
Ganduje, who also served as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, have long been locked in a political feud.
Jibrin explained that, despite being personally insulted by Ganduje in the past, he still attempted to mediate peace between them for the sake of Kano State and the nation at large.
“Everyone knows I have always advocated, even from the beginning of the government, for national unity. I felt insulted myself by Ganduje, everybody knew what happened, but I still tried to ensure there was peace between him and Kwankwaso,” he said.
He added that the reconciliation attempt failed because the final decision rests entirely on Ganduje and Kwankwaso: “I did my best, but at the end of the day, it’s their choice to settle their differences.”
