Prophet Jacob Dangyang Alleges Indigenous Families Have Lost Their Lands as Tensions Rise in Plateau
Fresh controversy has erupted in Plateau State following alarming claims by a prominent cleric who says entire communities have been transformed beyond recognition, leaving many indigenous families displaced from lands they once called home.
Prophet Jacob Dangyang, the General Overseer of Global UpperRoom Revival Ministries, has alleged that communities in Fass District of Riyom Local Government Area have gradually fallen under the control of armed groups, resulting in the displacement of native residents and the loss of ancestral farmlands.
In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, the Jos-based cleric painted a picture of a community that he says has undergone a dramatic transformation over the years. According to him, relations between local residents and Fulani herders were once peaceful and mutually beneficial.
The prophet recalled growing up in Fass, where seasonal grazing arrangements allowed herders to use farmlands during the dry season before returning to their settlements when the rains began. He said the arrangement existed for generations without significant conflict and contributed positively to agricultural activities.
However, Dangyang claimed that the situation eventually changed, leading to violence, displacement, and the alleged takeover of communities. He alleged that many families, including his own, lost access to lands that had belonged to them for decades.
According to the cleric, the development has left numerous indigenous residents feeling like strangers in places where their ancestors once lived and farmed. He lamented that he no longer has access to farmland in his own village, describing the situation as painful and deeply personal.
The prophet also expressed frustration over reactions to his public comments on insecurity and displacement in Plateau State. He claimed that whenever he raises concerns, some individuals accuse him of creating tension rather than addressing the issues he says communities are facing.
Despite the criticism, Dangyang insisted he would continue speaking out about what he describes as the suffering of affected communities. He argued that the experiences of displaced residents deserve attention and that their stories should not be ignored.
His latest remarks have generated intense debate online, with supporters praising his willingness to speak openly while critics question some of the allegations and concerns raised in his statements.
The comments come at a time when discussions surrounding land ownership, displacement, security, and communal relations remain highly sensitive issues across parts of Plateau State.
As reactions continue to pour in, Dangyang’s allegations have once again placed national attention on the long-running challenges affecting communities in the region and the search for lasting solutions.
